I love old European towns. If you ignore all the people here, you can almost imagine being transported back in time because a lot of the structures here are well preserved. I know that I don’t really give the town the attention it deserves but sometimes something would catch my eye. It really pays to keep an eye out for interesting things. It can be difficult to do that with a full blown Christmas market here. Of course, I kind of chose to come here at this time, so that would be on me. The old town square is probably best known for the Goldenes Dachl or Golden Roof which is essentially a very fancy window for the emperor’s use.
I can’t blame the emperor to want a balcony from where he can observe the town square below. Actually, I am sort of impressed with the emperor even wanting to be that close to the people. I don’t know what kind of person he is but it seems that he at least wants to be able to see things with his own eyes. And why not? Innsbruck is a beautiful town. It would have been a interesting sight to see the emperor just hanging around while normal people like us would be walking around the town.
