Walking in the Old City of Innsbruck

One of the important places to see here in the city of Innsbruck is the old town. Innsbruck used to be an imperial city because of Emperor Maximillian who used Innsbruck as the capital of the Holy Roman Empire. It was at that time that Innsbruck gained prominence. Like a lot of major European cities, there is an old town which is usually very well preserved and a joy to visit. Innsbruck also has a very well preserved old town and it is still the center of activity of the modern city of Innsbruck. The Maria Theresa pedestrian shopping street is one of the main ways to access the city.

Narrow Streets of the Old City of Innsbruck

I know that Innsbruck isn’t as famous as some of the old European cities, and I also don’t expect that the old city would be as large as the others that I have visited elsewhere. Still there is always that wonder when visiting places like these. I already expect that there will be a lot people in the old city as it usually is the case. I already know that I won’t be magically transported into a different time if I walk along these streets but I still like it and I will always make it a point to look around as long as there is an old town nearby.
