Going to the Old Town of Innsbruck

Walking Along the Maria Theresa Street in Innsbruck

It looks like I am making good time here in Innsbruck. I arrived early enough that I had time left after lunch to go around the old town. Innsbruck was once the imperial capital of Emperor Maximillian when he was emperor of the Holy Roman Empire. As a result, Innsbruck was the center of the empire. I don’t think the emperor would have chosen a prettier location for his capital with the snow capped peaks here. The old town of Innsbruck isn’t very large and can be easily explored on foot. One of the most prominent streets here is the Maria Theresa Street.

The Maria Theresa Street is actually not officially part of the old town but rather it is the main way to access it. The street is named after Empress Maria Theresa who played a huge part in the building up of the city. These days, the Maria Theresa Street is lined with various shops and it is a pleasure to walk here. In December, the street has a very lively Christmas market, I know that I would be visiting the market when it gets dark but it is kind of hard to avoid them where they are just along the road. I will focus more on the historical sites before these.
