I was told that to get to the old town of Innsbruck, I just needed to get to the river, turn right and keep following the river and turn right right before the next bridge. I didn’t think I needed to figure out where things were since even before I hit the next bridge, I already ran into a very lively Christmas market. I wanted to take my photos first before I forget. There is actually a significant bridge here which crosses the river Inn – Innbrücke. Innbrücke means Inn bridge.

It is not a coincidence that the bridge Innbrücke sounds like Innsbruck, this is actually the bridge that gave the city its name. For the longest time, the Innbrücke was the only bridge which crosses the River Inn at this point, so tolls became a good source of income from people wanting to cross the river especially for merchants. The current bridge was constructed in 1980 and is now one of several bridges which cross the river. There is a crucifix put up here on the bridge. From the bridge you get a great view of the colorful apartment buildings by the river as well as the old town. It is currently a major thoroughfare which connects these parts of Innsbruck.
