View from the Terrace at Hallstatt

While I was walking near the Catholic Church of Hallstatt, I noticed a steep set of stairs and I wondered where they go. It was steep enough to discourage me from climbing it to find out. Eventually, I ended up climbing it that afternoon so I can get to the Mühlbach Waterfall behind the village. What I didn’t know was that the stairs leads to one of the few parking lots here in the village. With the size of Hallstatt, there is a dire lack of parking space. The village was never meant to handle the kind of tourist traffic it sees now. I know that I visited in winter and I already thought that there were a lot of people there, but I can’t imagine how crowded it can get in the summer.

The parking lot here is actually some sort of terrace which just happens to also provide a great view of the village of Hallstatt. Since the terrace is rather high up, you can actually get a good look at the village without being too high up. You can see how lot of the old structures here in the village are still intact and that is what makes this village so charming. Up here on the terrace, I can see that there is still leftover snow from just a few days ago. It still hasn’t completely gone away but I can also see that some of that has also refroze making it quite slippery. Part of me wasn’t too happy that I didn’t get to experience snowfall there but while it make look nice, it isn’t exactly very nice to move around in.
