I had mixed feelings on my tour of the Salzwelten Hallstatt salt mine. There was a lot of film showing and not really much to see inside the mine. I know it is a salt mine and how much can you actually see there but I have to remind myself that this is the oldest salt mine in the world and that alone makes it important enough to visit and get it included as a UNESCO World Heritage site. However, that is not the only thing to see here on top of the mountain. Actually, I was glad that it wasn’t the only thing that you can see here.
As I was making my way out of the funicular station of Salzwelten Hallstatt, I noticed that there was a structure facing the Hallstatter See. I had a good idea of what it would be but I thought that I should leave it for after I was done with the salt mine tour. I don’t know how many people actually make it to the mine versus just going for the view but I thought that there seemed to be more people at the viewpoint compared to the visitor center of the salt mine. Anyway, now that I was done with the tour, I can use the rest of the time to see the other spots here on top. My first port of call would be the viewpoint. Now that sun has risen higher, it should be possible to see how the valley below looks like.
