The Old Town of Frankfurt is a delightful place to visit. The medieval square is surrounded by medieval style buildings which have been carefully restored after it was destroyed in the war. The result is a very pretty square surrounded be medieval buildings. I never imagined that there would be medieval buildings which would be that tall. I can only think of castles which would be taller but I assumed incorrectly. Although, the square is flanked mostly by these medieval buildings, there is a church here which has been here since the fifteenth century.
The Old Saint Nicholas’ Church isn’t a basilica but a more modest church. I was quite surprised to see it here in what I assumed to be the old town center. Perhaps there wasn’t much space to accommodate a full blown cathedral so they just made do with the space available. Going inside, you can see that there really isn’t much space inside. There is enough space for maybe a hundred or more people. The church is currently used by the Lutherans but it is also used by other denominations. There weren’t any signs here inside the church but there were tourists here. I couldn’t understand them but I can see that they were admiring the inside of the church. It was a shame that I didn’t know the significance of the church. I could only take my photos and go out.
