Posters with Information About the Salt Mines of Hallstatt

The visitor center at the Salzwelten Hallstatt is where most people visiting would end up. The building is rather unremarkable and probably not that different from the other buildings which are present here. It actually wasn’t that obvious that this was the place since there was no large sign proclaiming that this is the the visitor center. There weren’t any people outside either so I was doubting whether I was in the correct place. Upon entering the visitor center, I saw that there was a waiting area for visitors. People were all inside since it was cold outside. Apparently, the mine isn’t that any warmer and we were advised of the temperature inside and to prepare for that.

We put on identical uniforms both top and bottom to protect us primarily from the dirt. I don’t understand why it would be that dirty if lots of people would passed through the mine have practically swept it clean. There are lockers for visitors to keep their stuff in if needed. We were led by a cheerful lady who spoke very good English and it seemed that it was the preferred language for our group. Obviously, our guide has been doing this for a while and sometimes it would show in her jokes about the place, like how many times she has heard this or that music.

We were led upstairs where there are some informational posters about the place. There are some exhibits here which showcase the equipment that were used here. I was worried that this was all I paid for but it turned out not to be the case. There were a couple of rooms to go through but I wasn’t able to read all of the posters since I felt that we were in a bit of hurry to move to the next spot. I hope this doesn’t become a pattern for the rest of the tour.
