It hasn’t even been an hour since I arrived in the beautiful village of Hallstatt and I have already taken a lot of photos. It was starting to get dark, the days are shorter this time of the year, and I thought I needed to check in soon. I will be staying at the Gasthof Simony Hallstatt, which apparently is a bed and breakfast. I guess I should expect that here since people actually live here. I would be nice to see the inside of these charming houses. Gasthof Simony Hallstatt to my surprise is actually very near the village square. So everything is very accessible from here.

The guest house is an old structure which dates back to the days of salt mining in Hallstatt. As you might expect, the interior of the guest house is made of wood and you can feel the age of the structure here. Every step you take seems to make the floor creak and I actually worry that it can get noisy because of this. Although I thought that I arrived an hour early, the staff was able to check me in without any problem. I was quickly given instructions on where places are, but it went by so quickly that I didn’t understand.

When I booked this place, I didn’t realize that the bathroom was common. The bathroom is actually in a common area near the stairs. While I was initially bothered that I would need to queue up to use the bathroom or the shower, this actually never happened. There are two of each, I guess as long as you avoid rush hour, then you should be fine. Getting there can be a noisy affair though since the floorboards were creaking all the way to the bathroom. I don’t think there were people who were staying along my way to the bathroom, hopefully I didn’t make too much noise.

My room was narrow, but it was also long. There was a single bed which was perfect for me. The was a dressing cabinet which looks like it is hundreds of years old. Surprisingly, the room comes with a sink, at least I would be able to brush my teeth here instead of having to run to the bathroom to do it. Another good thing is that water from the tap is drinkable, surprise, surprise. This saves me from needing to buy water from the outside. The power outlets are nearer the door and a little far from the bed. If you look at your phone while it is charging, you won’t be able to do it from the bed. I guess that it a bit of training to stay away from my phone.
