When I saw photos of the UNESCO World Heritage village called Hallstatt, I immediately made plans around the visiting the beautiful village. The bus conveniently deposits passengers at one of the most popular spots for photos of the village. I was struck by the beauty of the scenery that I had to start taking photos instead of heading to my accommodation to check in. After all, I don’t know how long the somewhat clear sky can last. I can see that the lighting here isn’t optimal at all, in fact it was horrible. The sun was hidden behind tall mountains behind the village, which can only illuminate the tallest part of the mountains. This leaves the village itself not lit by the sun and thus leaving photos with ugly dark images of the village itself.
I believe summer would be the best time to come here but unfortunately, the rest of the world will probably also be here. You can see signs by the residents proclaiming that this is their home and to have more respect for the place. I can see how over-tourism can overwhelm this tiny village but such is the price of fame. If this village looks familiar to you, then you wouldn’t be wrong. It is actually the one of the inspirations for Arendelle from the movie Frozen. While the village wasn’t copied into the movie you can see how Arendelle would be so similar to Hallstatt. The beauty of Hallstatt is so much that there is a full replica of Hallstatt in China. I could probably hang out at the viewpoint for the rest of the day but I still need to check in. Hopefully, there will still be some daylight left when I am done.
