Going to the Emirhan

Walking Inside Emirhan

Walking Inside Emirhan

Despite having left early in the morning, I was finding myself running short on time. It was already mid afternoon and I was still at the Grand Mosque of Bursa. It didn’t help that I had to spend a bit of time charging my phone at the mosque just to make sure I have enough juice to get back to Istanbul. Visiting the Grand Mosque doesn’t take too much time which is good. I know that there are several heritage structures in the area and I was hoping to be able to visit a few of them.

The structures in the area of the Grand Mosque appear to connect to each other which made it a no-brainer to visit. One of these places is Emirhan. The Emirhan is a square building with a courtyard in the middle. Traditionally, this was an inn where people from caravans would rest after a long journey. It would be good to remember that the Grand Mosque of Bursa was at that time considered to be one of the most important mosques in the Muslim world. So, it is not a surprise to know that people would be coming here for pilgrimages. If people would journey here, then it makes sense to have a place for them to stay. The Emirhan is one of several in this area so it would be nice to have a look at how these things work.
