I spent most of the morning just walking around in the popular Taksim Square area of Istanbul. I have been here a previous day and I thought that it was a nice place to just walk around. Ultimately, I had to get a little rest because of all that walking. I was looking around for a place to have a little snack before I continue walking again. As I was walking, I saw a small shop which seemed to be patronized by the locals. Saryier Borekcisi didn’t seem to be one of those chain stores which I see all over Istanbul. It almost feels like a neighborhood shop.

Of course, I don’t think they would be able to afford to set up shop in this part of Istanbul if they are not popular enough. The guy inside seemed friendly enough and I just walked in. The name implies that they specialize in borek but I am here for something else. I pointed to some baklava because that is what you eat for snacks here in Istanbul. Although I have been here a few days already, this is just my first time to have it here. I had baklava elsewhere before and I thought it was nice. This one was no different. It is very sweet and I think that is how it is supposed to be. I like sweet stuff but I don’t think I should have too much of this. I will probably bring back some baklava for the folks back home, so this won’t be the last time I would have this.
