Inside the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Istanbul

You probably already know that that Türkiye is a majority Muslim country. However, it may surprise people to know there is also a thriving Christian community in the country. While there will be countries in the world where Christianity is banned, Türkiye is a tolerant society and that includes religious tolerance. I have seen dozens of mosques here in the country and it is not surprising to see one anymore. However, this made me more curious when I see Christian churches in the country. I happened to run into one here in the Taksim Square area of Istanbul when I saw the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.

This church is a Greek Orthodox Church which probably makes sense since Istanbul or then Constantinople was a center of Christianity back then. This gave birth to the Eastern Orthodox church and in a lot of ways adheres to the older doctrines of the Church. You can tell from the insides of Easter Orthodox churches that they are old. Most of the Eastern Orthodox churches that I have visited are small churches and this has got to be one of the largest ones I have visited. Unfortunately, the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church was not open when I visited. It was a shame since the facade of the church looked quite impressive. There were some images on display outside but I suspect that they don’t compare to anything that is inside the church.
