I thought that I had enough of Pamukkale and Hierapolis. I think it is an amazing place which is a combined natural wonder and ancient city all in one place. It was amazing to see how the two places worked together. The hot springs at Pamukkale attracted visitors from all over and eventually established the city of Hierapolis. The city is now in ruins though but Pamukkale is still going strong, somewhat. Water at the springs have been diverted for the use of a growing population which meant that it will no longer feed the travertine terraces for which the place is famous for.

I had a good look at the ruins of Hierapolis and then visited the museum which has exhibits of artifacts which have been dug up at Hierapolis. I thought this was all very fascinating but I didn’t have the whole day to spend here even though I spent almost half a day just to get here. I know that I could just spend the night here but it doesn’t look like Denizli is anywhere near as interesting as Istanbul. I decided to call it quits and head back to the bus station where I can hopefully catch a bus back to Istanbul.

I managed to get a bus back to the Denizli Bus Station by basically waving down a minibus where I initially got off to go to Pamukkale. I think I was comfortable with the transport system here and it seems to be safe, even if English isn’t spoken much in these parts. At the bus station, I quickly head for the counters to find my ride back to the big city. I managed to get one easily but it leaves a little more than an hour later. That gives me a little time to grab a late lunch. I would have expected that a place like a bus station would have more places to eat but this wasn’t the case here in Denizli. There were a few stalls which sell food but I eventually settled on a small cafeteria.

The cafeteria sells Turkish food. There is no English here so I just pointed and thumbs-up my way to my order. The servings were small but I think it was okay, I just got a little more since it wasn’t that expensive. The cafeteria is actually indoors so it wasn’t very hot unlike the outside. I did see a kebab shop there but I didn’t bother with it since it was outdoors. The food was okay, it felt more like home style cooking. I think this might be the first time that I had anything here which isn’t grilled and it was nice to have a taste of different food for a change.
