I was just looking at the artifacts on display at the Archeological Museum of Hierapolis. There are hundreds of artifacts here and it would certainly interest any student of archeology. Unfortunately, I was already exhausted from walking around in the noon day heat and I was just seeking shelter inside the museum. This doesn’t mean that I didn’t have a look at what they have here though. I was just not in the mood to do it that much. It was time to head out but before that I needed to take another look at the museum itself.
It turns out that the museum was hiding a secret. The museum building or at least part of it is built on the ruins of and old thermal bath. There were actually several thermal baths here at Hierapolis but it seems that this one is one of the important ones. The thermal baths here at Hierapolis benefit from the hot springs that are found nearby. You can say that Hierapolis reaons for existence is the hot springs of Pamukkale. After all, it is because of the hot springs that Hierapolis became well known as a spa center. The ancient Romans love their baths and no doubt that Hierapolis was a popular place to visit.
