I decided that I would only be visiting a few select sites here in Hierapolis. I don’t have much time here in Hierapolis so I can only visit the ones which are nearby. Technically, I do have time to explore the ruins for the rest of the day, however, the remaining hours would be when the temperature would be at its highest. I do not want to be out and about once it starts roasting so I just picked a few nearby places. These places would most probably be what most other people would end up visiting. The amphitheater of Hierapolis is probably one of the most impressive structures here in the entire site. I was on a schedule and I needed to go to the next site, which isn’t that far away. It is actually right next to the amphitheater but there is no direct path from the amphitheater.
To get here, you need to get out of the amphitheater and head down the hill. There will be signs on the left to tell you of some interesting places and no doubt you will see the people who come to visit. The Ploutonion is one of the major landmarks here in Hierapolis and, as the name implies, it is one dedicated to Hades, or Pluto to the Romans. This is a rather unique place because it is not very common that you see a place dedicated to the god of the underworld. I think it would be interesting to find out why such a place exists here.
