Pamukkale is a UNESCO World Heritage site in the city of Denizli. It is known for its white travertine terraces which were formed from the continuous flow of spring water infused with calcium carbonate. I have seen photos of this place with the terraces filled with pools of blue water. As you can imagine it is very beautiful. However, I was still at the foot of the hill where the travertine terraces are. There is a large pool of water here which wasn’t that great. Apparently, the main spots are up the hill and for this, I needed to climb up the hill. I was wondering why the bus doesn’t drop people by on top of the hill but maybe it is because the bus I took was a local bus which has its own route.
From the pool at the bottom of the hill, there is a path on the right where people climb up to access the actual site. The path isn’t very steep and for that time of the morning, it was still a pleasant walk up. Halfway up the hill, there is a ticket booth where people will have to purchase tickets to access the rest of the site. It includes access to all of the sites outside of Pamukkale, so this is actually very convenient. I was lucky that it was still early in the morning and there weren’t that many people here. It appears that Pamukkale is not that big, so maybe I would be able to leave this place quickly before it gets really hot.
