We didn’t really have plans the following day. I think it was just to laze around see what we can see around Boracay. What I didn’t realize was that for the period that we were there is that mornings is always high tide. So we can see that the beach isn’t that big. Actually that was my impression when I first arrived here. I thought that people have messed up the beach that there is hardly any sand left. Turned out that it was only because the tide was high so I didn’t see most of the beach. It was during this time when the tide is high that we decided to have a walk along the beach.
Walking along the main “highway” of White Beach can be rather exhausting, not physically, but more mentally. There are numerous touts along the way who try to get you to sign up for their water sports or island hopping tour. This can be avoided by walking along the beach itself. It seems the touts don’t like to loiter there and it can make for a more pleasant walk. We have walked this part a few times already but this time we will try to walk as far as we can go. We came to what is known as the Grotto. It is basically a small grotto of the Blessed Virgin Mary setup along the beach of all places. The tide is high, so the grotto turned into an island. You can see that there are people on the grotto itself taking their selfies. It is possible to walk/swim to the grotto even if the tide is high though seeing as to how many people there are at the grotto makes me lose interest in it.
Walking along the beach, I can see how close some of the establishments are to the water. I don’t know if this was the case from the start but the only thing I can think of it rising sea levels. Sometimes the water would actually wash against the buildings. I don’t know how long they can stay like this since some of the buildings have water right outside them. I also think of the stability of the building since water would potentially erode the foundations of the building, there might come a time when the building might not be usable anymore.
