I was on a business trip to Boston, Massachusetts and I thought it was great to be able to see the people I work with again, in the flesh. As usual with these type of visits, we would sometimes have time to ourselves so this one time, we thought to just go out for dinner. I was actually reluctant to suggest anything since I would imagine that I have more exotic tastes compared to the rest of the gang. I was then surprised that someone suggested Japanese food. I would be up for that.
We ended up at this almost hole-in-the-wall type of restaurant called Tora. It is a small place but upon entering the place you can see that there are a lot of Asians eating there, which I took as a good sign. I’m hoping that the food would be at least nice enough. There is a rather large selection of food in the menu. The food here is more for the lunch or quick dinner type of people. I got myself and unagi rice bowl. Didn’t I say my tastes may be a little exotic?
Unagi or eel is something which I haven’t had in a long time. I actually like how the Japanese prepare it. It is grilled but it is also slathered in some sweet and sticky sauce. This combined with the fatty texture of the eel makes for a good mouth feel. The unagi rice bowl at Tora Japanese Restaurant was no different. It was exactly as I hoped it would be. It wasn’t fantastic or anything but it was still good enough for me. We also order a place of sushi, hopefully nothing too exciting for my companions here.
Sushi is one of those things I could never really appreciate. It is okay but I guess I never had any super good sushi that I would go looking for it elsewhere. Our plate of sushi was okay as well. Tora Japanese Restaurant didn’t seem to be running out of customers. It seems that there was always someone here in need of a table, of which they don’t really have a lot of. Tora Japanese Restaurant is by no means a fancy Japanese restaurant, I don’t mind something here if I need to grab a bite to eat. At least I know that this a place that I can come back to.
