I was disappointed that I didn’t get to see any fossils at the village of Messel. It is recognized to be a rich source of fossils from the Eocene period unfortunately, like a lot of places that I visited these past few days, it was not open. I believe that some of the smaller towns and villages don’t even bother to open these places during the winter because it is not worth to do it for the handful of people who might possible make it there. I know I could have tried checking before coming but I didn’t. I decided to just head back to the city of Darmstadt where I came from in the first place.
There is a regular bus the goes from the village to the city. I originally took the bus from the train station but this time, I will not go back there yet. The UNESCO World Heritage site in Darmstadt is in the city center and I just got off somewhere near it. There is a short walk to the site but at least I would get to see some parts of the city. I don’t have too many plans for the day so I think I can afford to take it a little easier today.
