It was winter when I visited Germany so the days are short and nights come very early. I would like to think that I should be used to this but it still bothers me that it was already five in the afternoon and it was already dark outside. This causes havoc with trips since there would be less time to visit places in the daylight but at the same time, but it also helps speed up the clock when it comes to visits. Visitors can get to see day and night within a much shorter time. Compare this to doing this in the summer where you have to wait until ten in the evening before it gets dark. In my case, I was happy because I can get dinner sooner.
I was on the lookout for a place for dinner. The recommended place was on the opposite bank of the river which is why I was already there in the first place. I ended up walking much further than I expected. I was sure that there is way to get there using public transport but I thought that it won’t be that far. I was able to find Henninger am Turm which is a highly recommended restaurant at least according to the internet. The place was big and there was an available seat for me. After all the walking I was ready to eat. I went for one of their specialties, the pork knuckle. I know it is not the healthiest thing but I am not here everyday so I would just make the most of it.
Long story short, I was glad that I came all the way here. The pork knuckle was the best that I have had so far. The size was just right and the skin was very crispy. Most of the ones that I have had here had tough skin. Sure, there would be parts which are crispy but this is the first one which managed to crisp up most of the skin. I don’t know how authentic this is, but that is the way I like the pork knuckle. There was a generous serving of sauerkraut as well as mashed potatoes. To push it all down, I had a glass of their beer. I am not sure if Henninger is a brand of beer but there wasn’t anything outstanding about it, at least for me. Needless to say, I loved this meal and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this place to anyone.
