Whenever I think of major global cities, I would imagine that they always have some position near a river. This is especially true for the old world cities. They would usually have major rivers beside them. This usually serves a practical purpose because the river would be a source of water for the residents, at the same time, it also provides a convenient means of transport for the city to other places which are also usually along the river. Frankfurt is like these old cities as it is built along the River Main. Though not as well known as the Rhine, the River Main was essential to Frankfurt’s existence.
These days, the city has expanded to occupy both banks of the river. The modern financial district is nice but I also wanted photos of the city by the river. The Main river helps provide the water necessary for the photo. I needed to cross the River Main to get a better view of the financial district. I was lucky because the lighting was still very good and the skies were also very clear. It is hard to imagine but not too long ago, the skyline didn’t even exist. These days it is one of the more recognizable skylines in the world.
