Crossing the River Main

Iron Footbridge at Frankfurt

Iron Footbridge at Frankfurt

I was happy with what I have seen in the old city of Frankfurt. Even though the city was essentially destroyed in the last war, the old structures have been faithfully reproduced. The old square where there used to be imperial coronations now hosts a very lively Christmas market. There would be events here when it is not December. The Christmas market stretches beyond the square and I was just following it . What I didn’t know was that the old town square was actually beside the river.

The Main River is a tributary of the Rhine. It is actually the longest one and no surprise that a major city sprung up on its banks. I can see that it is not as wide as the Rhine but it is still an important link in the transportation of goods. The Main has several crossings but the one most important to me now is the one right beside the old town square. I know that I would be able to get a photo of the city of Frankfurt from the other side. There is a pedestrian bridge here Eiserner Steg or Iron Footbridge. You can tell that this is a popular bridge because of the sheer number of people here. I don’t know if it any popular but I just want to get to the other side.
