I decided to take a break from exploring the old town of Frankfurt and go for something a bit more modern. It was towards the end of my trip to Germany so I thought that I should start thinking of stuff to buy. What better place to do it than the Zeil Shopping District in Frankfurt. Zeil is a whole pedestrian shopping street that covers several city blocks. These are more modern shops as opposed to the stalls that you would find in the Christmas markets. I wasn’t aware of this place until I noticed it on the map. I thought that since it was almost noon, I should start looking for places to have lunch. Perhaps the Zeil Shopping District would have nice places to eat.
I was surprised how the city government managed to close down such a large street to vehicular traffic. The street was wide enough to accommodate a small park in the middle of the street. As a result, both sides of the street are lined with shopping centers. While there are some shops which I recognize, some of them seem to be local only. You can see that there is an emphasis on open spaces here. I would very much like to go in the shopping centers because it was still very cold. I ended up going in the MyZeil Shopping Center which is one of the larger ones along the street. It has a unique design where it has a hole from the side of the building to the ceiling. This is all lined with glass so you can clearly see how it was made.
