Inside Old Saint Nicholas’ Church in Frankfurt

Although I have barely skimmed the surface of what Frankfurt has to offer, I can confidently say that the old town area is one of the most attractive in the city. The beautifully restored timber framed buildings in Römerberg brings you back to simpler times. This was all wiped out during the war and was all reconstructed after all that. Interestingly, not all of the structures in Römerberg were destroyed. The Old Saint Nicholas’s Church somehow managed to get by with only minor damage. This church could be considered one of the oldest largely intact buildings in the old town.

The Old Saint Nicholas’s Church sits on one end of the square. It was actually difficult to take a photo of the church because there were a lot of structures in the way for the Christmas Market. I would have wanted to have a photo of the entire square but this would be impossible with the stalls in the way. I don’t know if I would be able to come back here but it would be nice to see it without all these structures. Like a lot of old town squares, the old town of Frankfurt has a church in the square. This church is Lutheran but it seems to also be shared by other denominations. The current church was built in the fifteenth century, though there were old structures here before that.
