Inside the Trinity Church at Speyer

While wandering around the Speyer city center, I happened to run into a Protestant church named the Trinity Church. I thought that the design of the church was unique since most Protestant churches I have seen tend to have more modern designs, unless they got the church from the Catholics. Speyer was the site of the Protestations at Speyer where people petitioned that the teaching of Martin Luther be allowed to spread. At the time, Catholicism was the dominant religion and any challenges to it were met with resistance and outright bans. The Protestation at Speyer want the bans to be lifted to allow a different kind of Christian faith to emerge.

I can’t tell if the Trinity Church was Protestant from the start but it would be interesting to see what it inside nonetheless. The door was open and I thought to have a quick peek inside. The church is a baroque church and baroque designs can be amazing. Unfortunately, the Trinity Church doesn’t have an interior which I would describe as amazing however, it is still better than most of the churches I have seen. There are paintings on the ceiling as well as on the sides. I didn’t really linger much in the church but I thought that looked much better than I expected. I think I was so used to seeing Protestant churches with simpler designs that it surprised me to see one has them.
