Speyer seems to be one of those normal German towns until you find out that it is host to two UNESCO World Heritage sites. The city has a UNESCO World Heritage site listed cathedral and that would be the main reason why I am here. I think I arrived a bit early so I thought that I go around the city center for a while. The main street is lined with shops and it looks like it would be very lively once they are open. I went to a side street because I saw this church tower which looked interesting. This spire is own by the Dreifaltigkeitskirche or Trinity Church.
The Trinity Church is a small church just off the main street. As far as churches go, the Trinity Church is rather new having been built the early eighteenth century. This church serves the Protestant community. The design is rather unique as far as Protestant churches go since I always assumed that Protestant church usually have a more modern architecture. However, the Trinity Church here has a baroque design which I think is rather uncommon for Protestant churches. This is made more significant by the fact that Speyer was the site of the Protestation at Speyer where there was a petition raised to allow the spread of the Lutheranism.
