The city of Trier felt like a very busy city. This is especially so since it was still rather early in the morning when I got there. The town square has a Christmas market set up but that usually opens later in the morning. No doubt, I will end up visiting the Christmas market for lunch or just snacks. Speaking of which, I thought that the Christmas market was a very affordable way to get food. I would be able to save some money by eating at the market and have more to spend for a fancier dinner. Anyway, the city center is also lined with numerous shops which makes for a very lively city.
At this point, I didn’t really have a destination in mind. I had already visited the Porta Nigra which is the monument which caught my eye when I was doing my research so I was just walking around and admiring the city. The city also has fountains which would be nice if it was operational. It wasn’t turned on at the time because it was winter and it probably doesn’t help that the temperature was below freezing. However, below freezing temperatures are also good for another activity – ice skating. It looks like they set up an actual ice skating rink here. This appears to be a real one made of ice and not those plastic ones. It really completes the winter feeling if you have these set up.
