This was getting annoying. I was visiting the town of Sankt Goar, specifically the Rheinfels Castle, but only to find out that the castle isn’t open for visits. Going to a place only to find out it is not open has happened several times in this trip and I am beginning to think that winter might not be the best time to visit Germany because so many places are closed, especially in the smaller towns. I know that if I think about it, there won’t be a lot of visitors going to these places in the winter so there was no point to hire someone to wait for essentially nothing.
The main gate of the castle was close and even though maintenance workers were able to get in the castle I still didn’t manage to see what is inside. There is an overlook near the castle gates and you can just get a peek of what is behind the castle walls. You can just barely get a glimpse of more ruins and possibly the other end of the castle. The only noteworthy structure that I can see here is the castle tower which is where the gates are. I am not sure if the tower was reconstructed because it seems to be in too good of a condition compared to the rest of the castle.
