I know I made it all the way to the small town of Sankt Goar but I really didn’t know what I should be doing here. It seems like the entire town was still sleeping. It was dark and freezing and even I don’t want to be outside in the cold. The main street in town was still asleep and there weren’t any establishments open. I was hoping to find a cafe where I can grab some food and warm myself up and the same time. There didn’t seem to be anywhere I can do that here so I just decided to get to work instead. The whole reason why I came here in the first place was that this area is part of the UNESCO World Heritage site titled Upper Middle Rhine Valley. On the way here, I can see how the River Rhine carved out a gorge as it makes its way through Germany. This area seems to be one of the most picturesque areas.
Even if it was still dark when the train was making its way to Sankt Goar, I can see how the general area is very pretty. The mountains weren’t very tall but the banks or the river were still steep enough to form a gorge. This looks like a valley with a large river running through it. Already I understand why this was included in the UNESCO list. It was a shame that I didn’t have a car since it would be nice to be able to stop once in a while to take photos along the way. From the main street of Sankt Goar, I made my way to the river. I noticed that there is a bit of frost on the grass and I don’t think it will be going away any time soon. The river was quiet and the sun was just starting to come out. I think it will only get better from here.
