I took an almost three hour train ride to the small town of Sankt Goar which is along the River Rhine. I wasn’t really sure if I was the correct place to go to, since this town seemed to be very sleepy. There are various reasons for it to be sleepy. First, it was winter and it was still dark when I arrived. Actually, the sun was just rising so I think most people would still be either in bed or just staying at home. Secondly, it was winter and it was freezing that day. It was below freezing the whole time I was there and I can see that there is some snow on the ground. It wasn’t enough that it would make it difficult to move around though. But if it was cold like that, I would want to stay home as well.
Staying home, or in my case, the hotel, is not an option for me since I was on vacation and I don’t want to be spending the day cooped up in the hotel. Hopefully, things will liven up once the sun finally rises. For now, I was just walking along what appears to be the main street of the town. The town is built along this stretch of the river and thus it is elongated. There were a number of shops and hotels along the main street but like everything else, everything seems to be awfully quiet. I think this is as authentic as it gets since I seem to be the only tourist around here.
