I was making my way to Augustusburg Palace. I was in no hurry because the sun has started to set and I knew that I wouldn’t be able to get in the palace anyway. This means that I would be outdoor this whole time. The temperature was close to freezing at the time and I wasn’t exactly looking forward to doing this in freezing temperatures but this is better than wasting my time trying to keep warm in the hotel. I will just need to hurry up and go around so I can warm myself up starting with the rain.

Augustusburg Palace is one of the two UNESCO World Heritage sites in the town of Brühl. It sits on the site of an older castle. It was commissioned by the Clemens August who was archbishop of Köln for whom the palace is named after. This was pretty common back in the day. He even commissioned a house at Falkenlust which will be used when he is out hunting. Like any palace, the gardens are extensive, sometimes blurring the lines between the palace and the hunting lodge. The gardens are somewhat reminiscent of the gardens as Versailles except these are not as vast. Additionally, winter isn’t exactly the best time to visit since much of the plant life is also out for the season. I think it would actually be nice there when the plants are growing.
