I was on my way out of Falkenlust early because it was closed for the season. I only took a few photos of the historic hunting lodge and I was on my way. This being a hunting lodge, there was quite a bit of greenery here. There were paths which were perfect for walking and I decided to take the scenic route back. This wasn’t a very long detour as it just goes through the garden which is right in front of the Falkenlust Hunting Lodge. What caught my attention was the presence of a gazebo like structure in the middle of the garden. This wasn’t a gazebo, but rather a chapel.
The Falkenlust Hunting lodge was used by the former archbishop and he would be here for hunting trips. I guess the archbishop felt the need to have a chapel here in between hunting sorties. The chapel was small and in a quiet corner of the garden. What impressed me was that it didn’t look like a chapel at all. What probably gave it away is a cross on top of the structure other than that it was impossible to tell what it was a chapel. This chapel is dedicated to Saint Mary of Egypt. The chapel wasn’t open for visits either but at least I can have a peek inside the chapel. I had to put my lens against the windows to be able to see the inside of the chapel and I can see that the interiors of the chapel are very elaborate. At the center is a statue. I would assume that it is a statue of Saint Mary of Egypt, but this statue looks like it is a statue of a man it was hard to tell from where I was. There was also a ladder inside, indicating that the chapel is being fixed up. It was hard to see the dome from where I was but I would just assume that it looks a lot like the rest of the chapel.
