The German town of Brühl is just a short train ride out of Köln, so I thought that it would be perfect to head there straightaway after I finished early in Aachen. I know this feels like trying to cram everything all into one trip but that’s really how it is. Fortunately, it wasn’t that far and I was able to arrive at the site after a thirty minute walk. Falkenlust is one of two sites which are part of the UNESCO World Heritage site. Considering its stature as such, the Falkenlust Hunting Lodge didn’t look anything special. It wasn’t that large and could in fact be compared to a mansion.
Unfortunately for me, I would not know how it looks like inside because the gate is closed and the ticket kiosks is likewise closed. There were hardly any people here. I was expecting it to be full of tourists or at least see another fellow tourist but there wasn’t a single one. The people who were there were just taking a walk and are obviously locals. It was a shame that I would be going all the way here only to see that the place was closed. I know I should have checked but maybe it would also be good to get to see it if only from the outside.
