I came to the city of Aachen not knowing a single thing about the place. Except for its cathedral. The Aachen Cathedral is a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is one of the oldest cathedrals in Europe and the fact that it is also related to Charlemagne adds to its prestige. I was under the impression that I would be able to see the cathedral the moment I step out of the train station. This won’t be unusual since even modern day Köln or Cologne built their central train station right beside their cathedral. Aachen was a little different in this regard. It seems I need to walk a bit to get to the cathedral.
By this time, I have started to remember what some words meant. One of the words is dom, which I have come to understand as to mean cathedral. There were signs to the dom along the way and it helped me not use Google Maps all the time. Having said that, I think the signs were too inconspicuous as visitors would be able to easily miss them. I ended up walking through the city all the way to city center where it seems to be much more lively. At the middle of it all is the cathedral of Charlemagne.
