I woke up early in the city of Köln to catch a train to the western city of Aachen. It is an hour train ride and there are limited direct trips to Aachen from Köln so I need to make sure that I make it. Catching trains is always very stressful. It was only my second day in Germany and I was hoping that I got used to the train system. I have learned that the ticket I purchased won’t have any information about the train I need to take so I need to watch the board for any train which will go there. Fortunately, Aachen is a terminal station which means that it will definitely show up on the board. Smaller stops along the way will not show up and you would need to find other means to find out which train to take. If I pay attention, the kiosk itself already identifies which would be the best train to take at the soonest time. I actually missed the train number the first time and I needed to make another query at the kiosk to make sure which one to look for.
The train to Aachen was a very quiet one. It didn’t seem like there were a lot of people going there. In fact for the majority of the trip, there were only a handful of us on the train. There were times that I thought that I was the only one on the train but of course there is still the driver. It got a bit busier when the train was already approaching Aachen. It seems that it is one of the stops which is near Aachen and working people or students are making their way to the big city. I have never heard of Aachen, and I was actually having second thoughts on coming here since it was so out of the way. I was relieved when the train was pulling in the Aachen train station, at least that part of the challenge is over. Now I just need to find where exactly is the place I needed to see here.
