Going to Aachen

Train at Aachen Train Station

Train at Aachen Train Station

For the few readers of this blog, you might notice a pattern in how I travel. I would go to a major city and book a hotel there for several days. In the meantime, I will not be staying that city the whole time unless there is a very good reason for me to do so. A lot of times, I will be using that city as a hub to visit nearby places. The city of Köln or Cologne would be no different this time. There are several places I would like to visit in the vicinity of Köln while not all of them are very near, it would still be convenient for me to base myself in Köln.

This time, I would like to go to the western city of Aachen. I will not exactly call this place near Köln since it will take around two hours to get there by train. Fortunately, there is a direct train from Köln central Train station to Aachen. I would get another chance to learn the German train system but I think I got a lot of practice from the previous day. Once you understand how the system works, it will be consistent everywhere. Since Aachen is not that near, I needed to take an earlier train to make sure that I have enough time to go around the city. Sure enough by the time I arrived at Aachen train station, it was already starting to get light. This is perfect, hopefully it won’t be too busy here.
