Ruins in Köln

Some Old Wall in Köln

Some Old Wall in Köln

It was getting dark in the day. It was winter and the days are short. So even if it was only four in the afternoon, it was already starting to get dark. I am not familiar with the streets of Köln or Cologne since I just arrived that day so I didn’t think it would be wise to venture too far out. I merely went to the city center, then followed the River Rhine, crossed the bridge only to see how the city looks like from the other side and plan to walk back to where I started. I was tired from the whole morning of travel, not to mention the lack of sleep. To top it all up it was freezing. I had so many reasons to just stay near the hotel and sleep the night away but I still wanted to see the city.

The opposite side of the Rhine wasn’t as interesting as I thought it would be, however, my interest was piqued when I saw some curious structures. They seemed very out of place and I thought that it may look like something from ancient Rome. As it turns out one might have looked like a colosseum but it was way too small. The other structure was a wall of some kind. These led me to think that these were some kind of old Roman ruins. But I don’t recall the Romans using much of bricks, at least the size that I was seeing. It seemed to be a little more modern. Unfortunately, there wasn’t any literature there which would tell me what it was. From what I am seeing online, it might be part of an old railway station. Which parts exactly, I don’t know. Maybe it is time for me to learn some German.
