I was surprised to run into a cholocate musem in the city of Köln or Cologne. Germany, as you might already know, is known for the quality of their chocolate. Several neighboring countries here are also known for their chocolate, Belgium and Switzerland being the more prominent ones. The Chocolate Museum is set by the banks of the River Rhine in the midst of a busy area which also happens to have a Christmas market. I can see that not everyone is here for the Christmas market, in fact, it is the other way around. I see a lot of people going to the museum building. But their reasons could be all different.
The Köln Chocolate Museum is sponsored by Lindt which is a well known chocolate company. They have a shop here where you can buy all sorts of Lindt products. I already buy their products in the supermarket but it is good to see what else they have in offer. In fact, I did find stuff which I haven’t seen in the supermarket before and I promptly bought some. Aside from the shop, there is the actual chocolate museum. I didn’t get to go in the museum at all because of the long queue for tickets and my lack of time to do this. Apparently, the museum tour includes a visit to the open viewing deck outside the museum building. From here you have a good view of the River Rhine, which I think isn’t very pretty right now because the sky is already dark.
Finally, there is the Chocolate Grand Cafe, I can see how it would be nice to have a nice cup of hot chocolate in this very cold afternoon. Most of the cafe is indoors but it is behind glass walls so you still have the view of the Rhine. In better weather, there is outdoor seating if you prefer that but probably not right now. I ended up not doing any of these things apart from shopping. So much for a self professed chocolate lover that I am.
