The city center of the city of Köln or Cologne is certainly a very lively place. It was December when I visited and the Christmas markets have all been set up. It seems that every other area would have a Christmas market somewhere. Not that I mind, since I find them very festive and nice places to visit. I would continue on my walk around the city center and I ended up walking along the banks of the River Rhine. The river is one of the great European Rivers and I would usually associate it with Germany even if it passes through several European countries. It is not surprising that Köln and old and major city was built along the shores of this great river.
I can see that the houses along this part of the river are maintained in an old traditional style. This part of the city of Köln is known as the Fish Market or Fischmarkt. As the name implies, this area used to be where the fish market was but these days it is just part of the Rhine river promenade. There are cafes and restaurants that set up shop here and I think it is a great place to have dinner. If only it weren’t freezing at the time of my visit, I would have wanted to try it. It is still a bit early to have dinner but I would make a note of this place when I need to look for food tonight.
