After a few hours exploring the spectacular Ponta da Piedade in Lagos Portugal, I head back to town to meet up with my friends who couldn’t go with me. We were to wait for the van driver who will be picking everyone up as we head back to Albufeira. I thought it was a very short visit to Lagos since we technically only started touring around at around three in the afternoon. I was hoping that we should have stayed at least one night here since it seemed to be quite nice here. Anyway, we were waiting at the plaza in front of the Igreja Paroquial de Santa Maria de Lagos which is the main church of Lagos.
There was still a bit of time before the driver arrives so I thought to go in a see what it inside the church. The Igreja Paroquial de Santa Maria de Lagos became the main church of Lagos when the primary one was destroyed in an earthquake. That probably explains why the church felt like it was smaller than it is supposed to be considering that it is a main church of the town. In fact, Igreja Paroquial de Santa Maria de Lagos wasn’t even at the center of town back then. It turns out that this church was outside the town and it was only when Lagos grew to its current size that it became in the center again.
