We went down to the beach at Praia do Inatel which wasn’t that far from our serviced apartment. We went a bit late in the day and by the time we were done, it was already dark. It was still a bit of summer so it was actually a bit late into the night now. Since it was night, it was also time for dinner. I was hoping that we would go to a Portuguese restaurant for dinner for a change since we have been catering mostly to what they have for kids. Some of our group went ahead on a tuk-tuk while we walked back up to the apartment. It turns out that there was a place near our apartment which is recommended by the driver – cheap and good they say.
This place turned out to be Uzonj Restaurante-Grill. I wasn’t sure of the name since it didn’t look or sound Portuguese but it was full and we needed to wait a bit to be able to get in. I took this as a good sign since there were a lot of people eating here. The menu looked promising alright. It had a few of the signature Portuguese dishes which I was familiar with so it was time to start. I was surprised to know how affordable the place was that I ended up getting two main dishes for myself. I got mango chicken which is basically grilled chicken with this delicious mango cream sauce.
My second dish was a Portuguese staple and that is sardines, I have been raving to my friend about how good the food here in Portugal is and that sardines are very popular here. The sardines here are fresh and much bigger than the ones you would see in sardine cans. I didn’t know that sardines grew that big. While some may scoff at the idea of having “only sardines” for dinner they give quite a few sardines so you won’t feel that it is not enough. Additionally, even as I was eating the sardines, the staff continued to add more to our plate. I don’t think it was a sardine buffet here but more of like those were extra fish which they don’t know what to do with so they just give it all to us.
It seems that I wasn’t the only one who like this place. We loved Uzonj Restaurante-Grill so much that we ended up going back to it a few nights later. I don’t like going back to the same restaurant when I am on trips but in this case, given the choice and restrictions which we have on restaurants, I was glad to go back there one more time.
