I was a bit disappointed in my visit to the grounds of Harvard University. I know that this isn’t exactly a tourist attraction and I probably would be expecting too much from this place. The buildings here in the grounds were very similar and honestly quite uninspiring. There is this whole need for preservation but maybe it is too late to say that they should have made it nice in the first place. I don’t think founders of the school had tourism in mind when they established the place and their focus was correct. These days, Harvard University is considered one of the top, if not the top, university in the world.
I was about to give up and move on when I saw a building with a lot more character. This one looks more like a church. The design is Victorian and it is certainly very different from the other buildings which I have seen so far. This is the Harvard Memorial Hall. This building remembers the Harvard men and women who sacrificed their lives during the American Civil War. The tower is reminiscent of the towers which I see in various parts of Europe. The building functions as a theater, a dining room and the actual memorial hall. I would have been great to see this place since this seems to be the most interesting building I have seen so far but I couldn’t get in again.
