The Excalibur Hotel sits next to the Luxor Hotel which I just visited. In sharp contrast to the Egyptian theme of the Luxor Hotel, the Excalibur Hotel has an Arthurian character – think King Arthur, knights and castles. As you can see from the photos. The hotel was designed to look like a castle. It is almost Disneyesque in it’s look as it is also no doubt inspired by the same castles. The castle is flanked by two large hotel buildings which unfortunately, don’t look anything like castles. They do that the red and blue motifs but there are a far cry from the castle towers which the centerpiece has.
This is another example of unique concepts used in hotels at the Las Vegas Strip. I think it makes sense to distinguish yourself from other hotels. If people can’t remember what kind of hotel it is, then they won’t do there. It would be easier to remember to go to the one that looks like a castle or a pyramid rather than trying to remember the name of some generic hotel or casino. Incidentally, MGM owns both Luxor and Excalibur hotels, so I think they are doing a good job creating a distinct character for the hotel. There is an elevated walkway where visitors can see the hotel better. From here, you can better appreciate the design of the hotel.
