I was trying to make my way out of Page, Arizona to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. It is a long ways off so I had to leave early enough in the morning so I can make it to the North Rim in a reasonable amount of time. I was actually a bit worried to be making this drive because I knew that I would be going through arid desert. I did make the drive from the South Rim to Page and that drive was surprisingly busy even through the desert. I thought that it would be more of the same here. Just getting out of Page was already a bit of an adventure because the way was very scenic.
This is the first time that I am exploring a true desert environment and it seems that everything is just red. The road out of Page was actually going up but I didn’t realize that the road goes through a mountain range. This mountain range is actually quite narrow so it made the perfect place to build a road. The road punches through the mountain range and opens up to what is a beautiful mountain pass called Antelope Pass. There is a large stopover area where people can park their car and have a look at the surrounding vista. From here, I can see where I would be going and I can see that there is a lot of nothing here. At this point, it wasn’t that hot yet. The mountain range is right behind Antelope Pass so it was blocking the sun. There is a small store here which sells Navajo trinkets. I would need to have a look at that when I have time but I would need to start moving before it gets too late in the morning.
