I came across yet another named view point along Desert View Drive which is the main road out of the South Rim. I know there are still numerous other view points here that didn’t get their own street signs. I am a bit relieved to know that not all of them can be visited by car else I would be here the whole afternoon. Navajo Point seems to be one of the more poplar spots that I have seen. You can tell because there are more people here. I would later find out that this is one of the places to go to for sunsets. I can only imagine how beautiful it would look like when the light turns orange and red.
I’m not sure what the Navajo name has anything to do with this spot. I do know that this area is very near Navajo Land so perhaps this point was a nod to that Native American tribe. I admit to not knowing much about the tribe but some of the literature here at the Grand Canyon helped to give me a little more insight. By this time in the afternoon, it wasn’t as hot anymore. I know that the South Rim is at a higher elevation so it is much cooler. I dread to know how much warmer it would be when I descend down from the plateau.
