I was trying to make my way out of the South Rim to where I would be spending the night but I would later find out that I would not be able to accomplish that quickly. There are several signed viewpoints that entice anyone to go visit. I am sure that because these are named, the view from these spots would be significant. I found a sign for Moran Point and like any obedient tourist, I just followed the sign. There is ample parking space at the end of the road. I think it is because people tend to be at where the visitor center is and not too many make it this far. It was also mid-afternoon which might mean that a lot of people might have already left. It is still good for me.
I parked under a tree to hopefully avoid turning the car into a oven. I won’t be gone long anyway so I don’t think it would be that hot. Leaving the window open a little would help release some of the heat as well. Moran Point is one of the named points in the south rim. This spot is named after Thomas Moran, who was a landscape painter. He visited the Grand Canyon and painted landscapes of the canyon. This helped to popularize the canyon which helped it become a national monument and then a national park.
