I don’t know if it is the heat or because I’m getting older but I feel that I didn’t have much strength to walk around. Although it is much cooler on the canyon rim than it is on the canyon floor, it is still very warm and it is not very comfortable to move around. I walked a few kilometers but soon turned back and started driving. I think I would be able to cover more by driving. Fortunately, the South Rim is very well developed and there is parking at the major destinations. It is not all just amazing views even if that is what you are looking for at the Grand Canyon. There is also loads to learn here.
I like how they have signs describing what it visitors are seeing. There will always be the usual geology lesson here but I think this would be one of the best places to learn about geology. Visually, people can see the effect of millions of years of erosion on the land here and ultimately produce the stunning vista that we see today. The process is still on-going though it may not be that obvious to short lived humans. While most viewpoints don’t have permanent structures. The Yapavai Point has one. For one thing, it has a geology museum. I think it would be a welcome respite from the summer heat as well.
