I was walking around the South Rim of the Grand Canyon in the midday heat. It was quickly sapping my strength even though it wasn’t a strenuous path. Imagine my relief when I saw a stone structure which looks like a traditional dwelling. This is actually the Yapavai Geology Museum. It not only functions as a museum but it also works as a rest stop for visitors. It has toilet facilities as well as water station. This is especially important in this kind of heat. I’m actually surprised that there is even water at all. Apparently, much of the water in the South Rim is piped in from the North Rim. Imagine all that effort to create the plumbing to do something like that.
Anyway, the Yapavai Geology Museum is a welcome stop for anyone walking outside. It is air conditioned and there is a nice enclosed viewing area. You can appreciate the beauty of the Grand Canyon in air-conditioned comfort. At the same time there is literature pointing various features of the Grand Canyon just as peaks, canyons and even what are called temples which are actually just peaks given a more interesting name. There is also a scale model of the entire Grand Canyon system. Here you can see how massive the Grand Canyon is. The vast landscape I see in front of me is just a small fraction of the actual Grand Canyon. How grand is that?
