I had a great time visiting Boston and meeting up with my colleagues. It is nice to finally meet them in person. It is hard to make connections if you are only in zoom after all. I took the opportunity to go on vacation myself at the end of the week. I thought that since I was already there, I took advantage and booked a flight to the west. I have been to some parts of the Eastern United States and while I thought it was nice, I wanted to see some impressive natural scenery. I know that the west has a lot of these places so I booked a flight out there. Unfortunately, the Boston trip was announced rather late and it was hard to find affordable flights at such short notice.
I managed to find a Spirit Airways flight to Las Vegas and I thought it had the perfect schedule. It flies out eight in the morning and arrives there around 10:30, which gives me a lot of time to go around. Coming back to Boston, it arrives five in the morning so I can schedule my flight out of Boston that evening too, saving me a night’s stay at a hotel. The flight to Las Vegas was uneventful and we landed on time, however what I wasn’t totally prepared for was the heat.
I knew it was summer but I wasn’t prepared for this kind of heat. Already just landing at the airport at 10:30 in the morning the temperature was already 38 degrees. What more would it be in the afternoon. I was hoping I wouldn’t have to find out. I booked a rental car for the duration of my stay here and I was honestly surprised at how expensive renting could be. I thought that it would be cheaper here since this is a tourist destination but it seems that is not the case. I was even asked for a three hundred dollar deposit on the rental “because this is Vegas”. Maybe people just run away with the car or something but the lady didn’t elaborate.
What annoyed me was that the advertised price online was totally different from what I was being quoted at the desk. I was told to go complain to the website. I thought the onus should be on the rental company because people would think the rental company is misleading them. Ultimately, I suspect most people like me don’t bother with this seeming deception since they were already at the desk and they just want to get the car. The price ended up being twice what I saw online. I was given a blue Nissan Kicks which was actually more than enough for me since I would be traveling alone but the space is appreciated. I haven’t drove on the left side of the road for a while, hopefully, I would get used to it very quickly.
